Applying for a grant from the Vickery fund

Hand signing a grant form

Making an application

Please note; the fund has not yet launched

The Vickery Fund is managed by Somerset Community Foundation, charity no 1094446

https://www.somersetcf.org.uk/

They have a wide range of advice and help on how to apply for a grant.

A few ideas to consider before making an application

  •  Do you have a plan
  • How do you encourage beginners
  • How does your organisation benefit the wider local community
  • Do you encourage people of all ages and backgrounds including those from disadvantages households and those who would not traditionally take part in music making
  • Do you self fund from other sources
  • Do you have a plan for the day after the funding from the Vickery Fund ends

If you have a good project please don't let the process put you off.

The Vickery Fund Objectives and Priorities

The Fund gives priority to amateur music groups within Dorset and Somerset (excluding West Somerset). The fund may make grants to individuals (See below)

The Fund will primarily make grants to groups to support a range of activity including (but not limited to):

  • The purchase of musical instruments
  • Commissioning original music
  • Funding professionally led music workshops
  • Sponsoring public performances
  • Funding training for amateur music groups
  • Supporting organisations that provide help and support to amateur music groups
  • The Fund will make grants to individuals for the following purposes: providing music scholarships to members of amateur music groups and individuals looking to pursue music training

Priority will be given to:

  •  Groups that receive little (less than 20%) or no funding from local or national government and that run primarily on donated funds or self-generated funds
  • Groups mainly composed of amateur musicians
  • Groups with 10 or more members

GRANTMAKING

Frequency of grant-making:

Applications which meet the objectives of the Fund will be regularly put forward to the Fundholder by SCF during each year and we expect to make grants annually from the fund.

Grantmaking in Dorset:

SCF will work in partnership with Dorset Community Foundation to administer grants in Dorset, providing them with payment to cover the costs of their grant making. SCF will collate applications and reporting and act as the lead Foundation for the Fund and lead point of contact with the Fundholder.

Decisions:

Applications will be assessed by SCF and then passed to the Fundholder for a final decision.
